I had previously purchased another (unbranded) handle, not the whole group/basket attachment, which had split after only 6 months light use, and never dropped. Clearly it was a waste of time and money in the end. It didn't have a positive fit around the brass group part.
The machine is 9 years old and the original gaggia handle had only failed (the black plastic part) as it had been dropped a few times onto the floor over the years. The brass group was still as good as ever.
A tip: you should avoid washing the entire handle unit in the water (just rinse the brass filter holder and basket), there is a screw inside the handle which will corrode once moisture gets inside.
This gaggia one is more solid than the generic handle, and has a better fit into the palm of your hand than previous handle, which did not feel as a sturdy to me.
The brass parts of the group filter are as well made as you'd expect, and should not let you down.
I always buy parts from Di Bartoli.... they're helpful, reliable, fast, with authentic products.... trust them for everything coffee.
